How to Keep Your Vagina from Celebrating Dry January!

It’s a new year and it seems that every article or social media post is about “Dry January,” and all it makes me think of is vaginal dryness (occupational hazard, I know).

There are many reasons a person can experience vaginal dryness. Most people associate it with aging, as hormonal changes due to menopause commonly cause dryness. Other life events, such as childbirth, can lead to hormonal changes that increase the chance of vaginal dryness. There are even certain medical conditions, like Sjogren’s Disease and some medications can make certain areas feel parched. Therefore, it is important to address the underlying cause to best address the symptom.

But while you wait to figure out what is going on or you just want to optimize your vaginal health, here are a few tips that can help keep your V from practicing Dry January.

1)      Stay Hydrated.

AKA drink water. Just plain, from the tap water. Not Lacroix. Not sparkling water. Just old fashioned water. Think of it this way, if your body isn’t well hydrated, how can you expect your vagina to be?

2)      Move Your Body

Getting your heart rate up will lead to increased blood flow, everywhere, including your vagina.

3)      Turn Yourself On and/or Self-Stimulate

Arousal helps stimulate blood flow to the genitalia this leads to lubrication. So consider listening to some erotica, watching a steamy show (no shame in re-watching season 1 of Bridgerton),  or have some solo time. Masturbation is a great way to increase blood flow and of course make yourself feel good.

4)      Consider Using a Vaginal Moisturizer

Just like you may put a moisturizer on your face or body, there are moisturizers for the undercarriage. There are many options but a few faves include: V-magic, Kunda and Julva

5)      Invest in a Good Quality Lubricant

Vaginal dryness can lead to irritation and pain with sex, so be prepared to have a good lube at the ready to keep things going. Silicone or oil-based lubes will last longer, but remember you cannot use an oil-based lube with latex condoms and silicone lube can degrade the silicone of your favorite vibe.

Regardless of your external genitalia, I recommend you keep your glass filled with water and find some fun ways to get your heart rate up so that your pelvis doesn’t take Dry January so literally. If you need extra support, I’m here to help!
